President Ram Chandra Paudel honoured the Nepali team including taekwondo player Palesha Govardan who won a historic bronze medal for Nepal in the Paris Para Olympics.
President Paudel and first lady Sabita Paudel honoured bronze medalist Palesha and her team by garlanding them amidst a programme organized at the President's Office, Shitalniwas on Wednesday.
Palesha’s coach Kabiraj Negi Lama was also honoured and felicitated on the occasion.
Extending best wishes to Palesha, President Paudel said her performance had earned international recognition for Nepal. The president said he expects her to excel further and secure a gold medal next time.
The function was also attended by Minister for Youths and Sports, Teju Lal Chaudhari, Palesha's parents, and officials of sports association.
During the Paralympics held in Paris, Palesha defeated her Serbian opponent in the women’s 57 kg category of taekwondo K-44 segment, clinching bronze medal.
It was a historic moment for the Nepali sports fraternity as Palesha has become the first ever Nepali to win a bronze medal in the Paralympics.
Earlier on Wednesday morning, sports officials organized a grand event to welcome Palesha and her team at the Tribhuvan International Airport. They were also paraded across the capital city. -- RSS
