A private sector initiative aims to establish an industrial village in Laxminagar of Surunga Municipality-3, Saptari, with the goal of fostering industrial growth, generating employment, and supporting local agricultural produce. Industrialist Birendra Neupane announced that the Big Indus Padamnagar industrial village will be constructed within two years at an estimated cost of Rs 4 billion, the state-run national news agency reported.
According to RSS, the project will span 14 bighas of land. Former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal, a senior leader of CPN (Unified Socialist), laid the foundation stone for the project on Monday. Calling the initiative historic, Khanal emphasized its role in national development and prosperity.
"It is a historic project which is linked to country's development and prosperity," RSS quoted Khanal as saying.
"The private sector has the capability to drive development initiatives,” he added.
Neupane, the project's lead investor and a hydropower entrepreneur, told RSS that he launched the initiative in memory of his grandfather, Padma Bahadur, who made significant contributions to society.
"We can develop our country by establishing industries and providing employment to our youth," he stated.
According to RSS, the industrial village will include a pulp factory producing fruit juice packets and pulp, with a daily capacity to purchase 10 truckloads of mangoes from local farmers. This will ensure better market value for locally grown fruits. A cold storage facility with a capacity of 2,600 metric tons will also be built, allowing farmers to store and market their produce efficiently. Additionally, a lubricant factory, developed in collaboration with Indian petroleum businesspersons, will be set up in the facility. Other industries planned for the site will focus on paint, solar energy, glass, and bottle production, added RSS.
Surunga Municipality Mayor Geeta Chaudhary welcomed the project, expressing confidence in its job-creating potential. She also pledged the local government’s support for its successful establishment.
