The Weather Forecasting Division has forecast light to moderate rain in some parts of the country and snowfall in mountainous regions today (December 24) due to the influence of a western low-pressure system.
According to the division, light rain and snowfall were recorded in parts of Sudurpaschim Province and a few locations in Karnali Province on Tuesday, December 24. Meteorologist Rojan Lamichhane noted that Sudurpaschim, Karnali, Lumbini, and Gandaki provinces would experience generally cloudy weather due to the western wind and low-pressure system. In contrast, hill areas of Koshi and Bagmati provinces are expected to remain partially cloudy, with clear skies in the rest of the country.
Lamichhane also cautioned that mist and fog in parts of the Terai and Kathmandu Valley could disrupt daily life, health, transportation, and aviation. The cloudy weather is expected to persist until Wednesday, leading to a drop in maximum temperatures and an increase in cold conditions.
Meanwhile, climate expert Binod Pokharel, an associate professor at Tribhuvan University's Central Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, shared on social media that the western disturbance had brought light precipitation in Sudurpaschim and Karnali, along with cloudy conditions in Lumbini and Gandaki. However, he added that while clouds are likely to cover most of Nepal on Tuesday, the chances of significant precipitation remain low.
