President Ram Chandra Paudel has appointed Prakashman Singh Raut as the country’s new chief justice.
The president appointed the senior most justice of the Supreme Court Prakashman Singh Raut as the chief justice of Nepal on Sunday upon the recommendation of the Constitutional Council and in accordance with Article 129 of the Constitution of Nepal.
The Parliamentary Hearings Committee unanimously approved the name of the proposed Chief Justice Raut on October 2. A meeting of the Constitutional Council held on September 16 had decided to recommend him as the chief justice.
The president appointed Raut as the chief justice after the tenure of Chief Justice Bishowambhar Prasad Shrestha ended on October 5. -- RSS
