The reconstruction of the Degu Taleju temple in the Patan Durbar area, a UNESCO World Heritage site, has been completed.
The temple, which was completely destroyed during the Gorkha Earthquake in 2015, has undergone significant restoration. While the exterior reconstruction of this historic temple is now finished, work on the interior is still ongoing in the second phase, according to Leela Pathak, chief of the Patan Monuments Conservation and Durbar Supervision Office.
Pathak stated that the largest and tallest temple in Lalitpur will be inaugurated after the completion of interior works and an atonement ceremony. "The temple, which dates back to the Malla era, has been restored to its original style," she added.
The Government of Japan contributed Rs 130 million to the temple's reconstruction.
According to Pathak, the reconstruction of most heritage sites in Lalitpur has been completed, with only a few still undergoing restoration. -- RSS
