Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has announced that road infrastructure is being developed to connect the Lipulekh-Limpiyadhura region through the Mahakali Corridor.
Speaking during a parliamentary session on Thursday, PM Oli made the remarks in response to a question from lawmaker Binita Kathayat.
According to him, construction is currently underway on a 43-kilometer section of the Brahmadev–Jhulaghat–Darchula–Tinker road, extending from Darchula to Tusharpani. The Nepal Army is overseeing the remaining 79-kilometer stretch from Tusharpani to the Tinker border.
“So far, around 12 kilometers of track have been excavated, and the remaining section will be completed soon,” PM Oli stated.
The road project is of strategic significance as it aims to connect the disputed territory of Lipulekh-Limpiyadhura, which both Nepal and India claim as their own.
In May 2020, Nepal unveiled a new political map incorporating Kalapani, Lipulekh, and Limpiyadhura within its borders. This move came six months after India included these areas in its updated map following the splitting of Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories. Nepal's decision also followed India's inauguration of a road link via Lipulekh to Kailash Mansarovar in Tibet, which Nepal strongly objected to.
Since assuming office last year, PM Oli has reiterated the resolution of boundary disputes through diplomatic channels. Nepal shares its borders with India to the east, west, and south. The two countries have territorial disputes on multiple fronts.
