A motorable bridge is planned for construction over the Marshyangdi River near Bhraka, along the route to the religious and tourist destination of Milarepa Cave in Manang Ngisyang Rural Municipality-5.
The Ministry of Urban Development has allocated Rs 144.94 million for the project, Binod Gurung, Chairperson of the District Tourism Entrepreneurs Committee, told the state-owned news agency RSS.
Previously, under the coordination of Member of Parliament Tek Bahadur Gurung, a 5-meter-wide and approximately 2.8-kilometer-long road track was opened from Munje to Milarepa Cave.
Following the completion of the track, a 50-meter-long and 7-meter-wide bridge was designed to further ease transportation, Gurung added.
The project, which also includes road upgradation, is expected to be completed within three years. Funding allocations include Rs 25 million for the current fiscal year (2024/25), Rs 72.47 million for 2025/26, and Rs 47.47 million for 2026/27, according to the rural municipality office, as reported by RSS.
Once operational, the bridge is expected to boost tourist arrivals to religious sites and contribute to the promotion of local tourism, said local stakeholders.
