Building on the strengths of its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold5, the Galaxy Z Fold6 offers top-tier specifications across the board. It features two Dynamic LTPO AMOLED displays, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, triple cameras, and a refined design. Design-wise, the new phone in the Fold series retains much of the previous model's look but with some refinements. The device now has a boxier and flatter design compared to the Fold5, with more uniform bezels on the cover screen. It is also slightly thinner at 12.6mm when folded and 5.6mm when unfolded, and a bit wider at 132.6mm compared to the Fold5's 129.9mm. Additionally, the Z Fold6 is lighter, weighing 239 grams compared to the Z Fold5's 253 grams.
The Fold6 features a perfectly symmetrical design with straight edges, providing an aesthetically sleek finish. The new cover screen ratio offers a more natural bar-type viewing experience. According to Samsung, the Galaxy Z Fold6 is engineered for enhanced durability. Its dual rail hinge structure is reinforced with a strengthened folding edge, better distributing the impact of external shocks, it added.
Similarly, the Improved layers on the main screen reduce the crease while maintaining strength. Additionally, the latest Galaxy Z series includes enhanced Armor Aluminum and Corning® Gorilla® Glass Victus® 2, making it the most durable Galaxy Z series yet. While the placement of buttons, charging port, SIM card tray, and speakers remains unchanged, the display upgrades are notable. The Galaxy Z Fold6 boasts two Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X screens with a 120Hz refresh rate. The cover screen is a 6.3-inch display with a resolution of 968 x 2376 pixels and a peak for improved internal cooling.
For photography, the Galaxy Z Fold6 sports a 5-camera setup: a 50MP main camera with dual-pixel PDAF and OIS, a 10MP telephoto lens, a 12MP ultrawide lens, a 10MP cover display camera, and a 4MP under-display camera. The rear cameras can record video up to 8K at 30fps, while the front camera supports 4K video at 60fps.
The battery is a 4400mAh unit, the same as in the Z Fold5, and supports QC 2.0 charging through a USB-C port with 25W wired, 15W wireless, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging. It runs on Android 14 with the One UI 6.1.1 skin and promises seven generations of OS and security updates. Samsung has also enhanced Galaxy AI, offering features such as suggested replies, live translations, and transcription assistance. The Galaxy Z Fold6 boasts a variety of AI-powered features and tools designed to maximise the large screen and significantly boost productivity. Note Assist in Samsung Notes offers translation, summaries, and auto formatting for effortless meeting notes. Additionally, a new embedded transcript feature enables the transcription, translation, and summariaation of voice recordings directly within Notes. The PDF overlay translation feature allows for seamless translation and overlay of text in PDF files, and it even supports text in images and graphs.
The newly added Composer in Samsung Keyboard generates suggested text based on simple keywords for emails and supported social media apps. For social media, Composer analyses previous posts to create text that matches users’ tone. Moreover, the S Pen experience is further enhanced with Galaxy AI on the Galaxy Z Fold6’s screen. The new Sketch to Image feature allows one to create more sophisticated art by generating image options when one sketches or draws on photos in the Gallery or Note screen.
Galaxy Z Flip6
The Galaxy Z Flip6 is not just optimised for portability, but it offers a range of new customisation and creativity features so that users can make the most of every moment.
The 3.4-inch Super AMOLED FlexWindow has been enhanced yet again, enabling AI-assisted functions without even needing to open the device. And for those communications on-the-go, one can reply to texts with Suggested replies which analyses latest messages to suggest a tailored response. Creativity also goes beyond FlexWindow. FlexCam continues to offer the most versatile camera experience and unlocks new creative options. With the new Auto Zoom, FlexCam automatically finds the best framing by detecting the subject and zooming in and out before making any necessary adjustments. That way, one does not have to choose between friends or an incredible backdrop being in the shot.
The new 50MP Wide and 12MP Ultra-wide sensors provide an upgraded camera experience with clear and crisp details in pictures. The new 50MP sensor supports 2x optical zoom for noise-free photos, while offering AI zoom for an advanced shooting experience with up to 10x zoom. Nightography, enhanced with video HDR, allows one to capture more brilliant videos — even in dim lighting — and goes further by partnering with popular social apps as well. The night capturing feature is now available in-app on Instagram. This means one can take amazing photos at night and message or share them directly from within the app.
