The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday issued a show cause notice to the government over a contempt of court petition for failing to implement its verdict on the Giribandhu Tea Estate land scam.
A division bench of justices Sarangha Subedi and Nityananda Pandey directed the government to submit a written response within seven days through the Office of the Attorney General, explaining why it should not be held in contempt. The court also sought the original case files, including the Constitutional Bench’s order issued on February 7, 2024.
The petition, filed by Advocate Om Prakash Aryal, names the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers as defendants. It alleges that instead of enforcing the SC’s ruling, the government introduced a land-related ordinance with relaxed provisions. -- RSS
