The Weather Forecasting Division of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast rainfall and snowfall in most parts of the country starting Friday evening due to a westerly disturbance.
In a special bulletin issued on Thursday, the department explained that a westerly low-pressure system would bring partly to generally cloudy conditions across the country from Friday evening.
Light to moderate snowfall is expected in most of the high hills and mountainous regions of Sudurpaschim and Karnali provinces, as well as in some high-altitude areas of Gandaki, Bagmati, and Koshi provinces, from Friday afternoon till Saturday.
Additionally, light rain is likely in various parts of the country.
The department also warned that temperatures could drop further with the arrival of this new weather pattern.
Meanwhile, climate expert Binod Pokharel wrote on social media that a western disturbance with moisture from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal is producing thunderstorms in north-west India.
According to Pokharel, heavy snow may fall over mountains in Karnali and Sudurpashchim from Friday evening. Pokharel, who is an associate professor at the Central Department of Hydrology and Meteorology at Tribhuvan University, added that light precipitation will occur in most parts of Nepal by Saturday.
