Dhorpatan witnessed its first snowfall of the year on Sunday evening, following a prolonged dry spell. The snowfall, accompanied by rain, has led to a drop in temperature in the region, the state-run national news agency RSS reported.
Farmers in the area have expressed relief and optimism, hoping that the precipitation will benefit their crops. Binod BK, a ranger at the Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve, stated that the valley and surrounding areas have turned white due to the snowfall.
“The weather had been deteriorating since last Friday, but snowfall, along with rain, finally occurred on Sunday evening,” RSS quoted BK as saying.
Prem Bahadur Gharti Magar, a resident of Dhorpatan Municipality-9, told RSS that feeding horses and mules has become challenging due to the snow. However, he believes the snowfall will help improve crop conditions. “The prolonged drought had caused plants to dry up,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Muktinath area and surrounding hills in Mustang district also experienced snowfall on Sunday after an extended dry spell. According to RSS, the snowfall disrupted transportation to the pilgrimage site.
A team of 15 Armed Police Force personnel was deployed since early morning on Sunday to clear the obstruction caused by the snowfall, RSS reported.
