Export of tea from the Mechi Customs Office in Jhapa has increased by 52 percent year-on-year in the first two months of the current fiscal year 2024/25.
A total of 4,412 tonnes of tea worth Rs 1.13 billion were exported between mid-July and mid-September ( Shrawan and Bhadra ) this year, compared to 2,902 tonnes in the corresponding period last year, according to the office.
President of the Nepal Tea Producers' Association Aditya Parajuli said that the reduction of tea production in South India led to the increased export from Nepal. “The demand from India may increase further this year.”
Nepal exported 13,433 tonnes of tea, 7.68 percent less than that in fiscal year 2022/23, worth Rs 3.16 billion to India in the last fiscal year, 2023/24.
