July 31: For its noteworthy video on solving the problems faced by disabled people, the stair-climbing wheelchair team of the Institute of Engineering under Thapathali Campus won the title of Inter-college Video Challenge 2018 on Monday, July 30. The three-member team comprising of Sarozh Maharjan, Rupendra Aryal, Ramesh Kumar Shrestha bagged Rs 100,000 for their concept to help the disabled overcome architectural barriers such as stairs, curbs on roads, stairs in front of local shops.
Altogether 30 teams from 15 colleges had submitted their videos on the theme “Future Engineers Shaping Nepal” for the competition organised by PAC Asia in association with Macquarie University.
The list of top five teams shortlisted last week includes Mech-minds from the Institute of Engineering, Purbanchal Campus; Zyaba Sqaud from Pulchowk Engineering Campus; Stairclimbing Wheelchair from the Institute of Engineering, Thapathali Campus; Digixel Inc from Islington College and Advanced from Advanced College of Engineering and Management.
The winner of the competition was selected by a panel of jury after evaluation under certain criteria. While deciding the winner, 70 percent weightage was given to the idea, concept and content of the video while the remaining 30 percent was based on likes in the social media of their videos.
The competition was organised for the engineering students of the BE final year from Kathmandu valley, according to the organisers.
During the event held at Hotel Mulberry, country manager of Macquarie
University for Nepal and South Asia, Riasat Hussain, shared, “All the innovative videos were impressive and we are happy to support them.”
