TikTok, the globally popular social media platform with over 1 billion monthly active users, hosted a high-profile event in Kathmandu on December 14 as part of its “Safety Ambassadors Programme”. This initiative, under TikTok's #SaferTogether campaign, aims to promote digital safety and foster a more responsible online community.
The event featured an engaging panel discussion with some of Nepal's leading content creators, including Oshin Sitaula, Parakram Rana, Manjita Manandhar (My Darling Food), Suhant Pradhan, Rastra Bimochan Timalsena, and Shree Pandey. Addressing a packed audience of creators and journalists, the panelists tackled pressing issues such as misinformation, harassment, cyberbullying, and online scams, while emphasizing the importance of creating safe and engaging digital content.
The discussions also included practical insights into becoming a successful and responsible content creator, providing valuable tips to attendees.
This campaign is a part of TikTok's broader mission to ensure a safe and inclusive platform for its global community. Through initiatives like this, the platform raises awareness about in-app safety features and encourages users to leverage resources available on its Safety Centre, the company said.
TikTok's Safety Centre serves as a comprehensive hub for updates, tools, and guides, including resources like: New user safety guide, parent’s guide, and privacy and security tips.
TikTok also reinforced its Community Guidelines, which maintain a zero-tolerance policy for harmful content and behaviors. “From tackling inappropriate content to ensuring holistic user safety, TikTok is unwavering in its commitment to protecting its community,” the company stated. “This campaign serves as a reminder of TikTok’s efforts to combat misinformation, educate users on safety, and promote the creation of authentic content.”
