A study report has found that tourism, agriculture and medicinal herbs could boost the economy of Karnali region.
It was mentioned during a stakeholder discussion event organised by International IDEA in Birendranagar, Surkhet on Monday, November 25.
The report centred on the potential of economic growth in Karnali Province.
Programmes Officer of International IDEA for Karnali Khagendra Chamling Rai told RSS, the state-owned news agency, the report was based on periodic plans, economic survey, interaction with key stakeholders and field visits.
“Discussions were held with development partners, industrialists and entrepreneurs, government officials, civil society members and politicians to identify the problems and solutions in a collaborative manner," Rai added.
Pramod Bhagat, also a programme officer at International IDEA, gave a presentation on building ‘organic’ Karnali, golden triangle route, tourism, sustainable agricultural production in lower parts of the region and infrastructure among other matters.
Similarly, Project Manager Prakash Jha said the government could pay heed to the supply chain infrastructure in the region.
Spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Planning, Karnali, Mahendra Jung Shahi, said the utilisation of forest resources, reliable road network and integrated human settlement were imperative for the development of the province.
Province member of National Rural Municipalities’ Federation and Chairman of Chaukune Rural Municipality, Kadga BK mentioned every profession needs to be identified and given due recognition to establish an economic link.
