The damaged water distribution pipeline at Babarmahal, Kathmandu has been repaired after 20 hours.
The pipeline ruptured on Wednesday afternoon during drilling by the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) as part of its underground power cable installation project.
“The repair work began late last night,” said Ashok Kumar Paudel, CEO of Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL), the body responsible for managing water supply and sanitation in the Valley, to state-owned news agency RSS. “We are conducting water quality tests and will resume distribution once testing is complete.”
Minister for Water Supply Pradeep Yadav on Wednesday blamed the NEA for failing to coordinate with the ministry and other relevant agencies, which led to the incident.
The pipe burst caused flooding in the area, disrupting nearby government offices, including the Special Court, and worsening traffic congestion.
