The deadline for the western section of the Mugling-Pokhara Road Expansion Project has been extended by another year, pushing the completion date to December 2025.
This section of the project, spanning Kaski and Tanahun districts, covers a 38.8-km stretch from Jamune in Tanahun to Setipul in Pokhara along the Prithvi Highway. Work on the section began in August 2021 under an original three-year contract, which expired in August 2023. The previous 101-day deadline expired on December 5, according to RSS, the state-owned news agency.

Project engineer Saujanya Nepal confirmed the extension. The Chinese construction company, Yanhui Kaiyuan Highway and Bridge Construction, is executing the project with a budget of Rs 7.4 billion.
Despite the extensions, the project has achieved only 35 percent physical progress. Of the total stretch, 23.91 km has been blacktopped, including 5.45 km of two-way and 18.46 km of one-way roads.
Bridge construction has also seen significant delays, with only five of the required 11 bridges completed so far.
