Renowned wildlife photographer Chungba Sherpa passed away on Monday, January 13, at the age of 64.
Hailing from Lukla, Solukhumbu, Sherpa was affiliated with several national and international photography organizations.
Phunuru Sherpa, Ward Chair of Khumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality-1, informed the state-owned news agency RSS that Sherpa breathed his last at 12:15 AM while undergoing treatment for liver-related ailments at Grande International Hospital in Kathmandu. He had been on ventilator support, according to the report.
In addition to his career in photography, Sherpa had a longstanding involvement in politics. He served as the President of the Nepali Congress for Khumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality and as the Chairman of the then Chaurikharka Village Development Committee.
He is survived by three daughters and two sons.
