A writ petition has been filed in the Supreme Court challenging the government's decision to appoint Deepak Raj Joshi as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB).
Dhananjaya Regmi, a competitor for the same post, filed the writ on Tuesday, seeking an order to prevent the government from implementing Joshi's appointment. Regmi argued in his petition that Joshi's appointment violated regulations, as discretionary powers were used instead of relying on the results of the competitive exams held for the position.
The NTB Board of Directors had decided to appoint Joshi as CEO during a board meeting on Thursday, and Joshi has already assumed his duties.
In a separate case, a writ petition was filed at the High Court Patan, demanding the immediate collection of fees from industrialists for using electricity from dedicated feeders and trunk lines during the load-shedding period.
Advocates Yagyamani Neupane, Kamal Prasad Pokharel, Tika Prasad Dhakal, and Deepak Adhikari filed the petition on Tuesday, calling for the annulment of the decision made by the Council of Ministers and other agencies that halted the payment of arrears to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).
The petitioners requested a mandamus order directing the concerned authorities to collect the outstanding payments and to take action against the parties responsible for non-payment and delays. -- RSS
