In a bid to settle organisational portfolio disputes, the UCPN (Maoist) is holding a plenum of the party at Khanna Garment in Lalitpur from Friday. The three-day-long meeting of the 500-member plenum was called after the party stuck to the serious rows of portfolio allocation following a sudden decision of its vice-chairperson Baburam Bhattarai to step down from his post.
According to a participant of the plenum, party chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has presented a proposal in the plenum to go for centralised leadership where there will be a chairperson only as an office-bearer.
Earlier in February, the General Convention of the party held in Hetauda had elected Prachanda as chairperson, Bhattarai and Narayan Kaji Shrestha Prakash as Vice Chairpersons and Post Bahadur Bogati as Secretary of the party. All office bearers except Chairperson Prachanda will be demoted to central committee members if the proposal would be endorsed from the plenum.
