
The tattoo business in Kathmandu has succeeded to create its own identity.
An increasing number of youths in the capital see tattoo as a fashion and slowly this business has been thriving.
The evidence that young people are embracing the culture of tattoos and getting inked can be seen at the Nepal Inked – A Tattoo and Lifestyle Convention that held at the Exhibition Hall at Bhrikuti Mandap. Tattoo artists from around the world -- 40 from Nepal and 30 from abroad -- have gathered together to exchange ideas and learn from each other.

According to history, tattoos have long been a part of the rituals or identity of certain tribes and communities. Tattooing was practiced years ago by various caste and ethnic groups including Tharus and Newar.
Not only Nepali, tourists also go to tattoo parlor to have tattoo image on their body which has created job opportunities to Nepali tattoo artist.
The price for one tattoo ranges Rs 1,500, and it goes up to Rs 15,000 depending upon the size and use of color, according to tattoo artists.
