Constituent Assembly (CA) election is slated for November 19. Participating political parties have announced their agenda in their manifestos. Education is one of the major components of development. Considering the importance of this sector, political parties have incorporated various programmes and agenda to develop it. Of other programmes, promise for quality free and compulsory education has been made by all major political parties. In this issue, The Corporate has analyzed manifestos of these political parties to find out what they intend to do in education sector. Here are the salient pledges made:
UCPN (Maoist)
•20 percent of total budget for education sector
•Increasing quality of public education
•Controlling commerciali-zation in education
•One university in each federal state
UCPN-UML
•Ending unproductive education system
•All-accessible primary schools
•Concept of residential school
•Grading system instead of existing percentage-based ranking system
Nepali Congress
•Making teachers responsible towards exams results
•Mobilizing the available resources from former students
•Compulsory and free education up to grade 12
•Making private education institutions responsible and safe
•Providing full scholarships to female Dalit student for Engineering and Medicine subjects.
•Open University to be established for ensuring higher education for underprivileged.
Rastriya Prajatantra Party
•Ending politicization in education
•To establish national commission for improving education sector.
•A model public school in every VDC
