October 26: Poultry business has witnessed continuous loss due to fuel crisis caused by the undeclared border blockade imposed by India. The price of eggs and meat of broiler chicken has fallen down by 40 per cent in recent days.
The Nepal Poultry Entrepreneurs' Forum chair Shankar Prasad Kandel feared that over 60 billion rupees invested in the sector may face risk if the situation worsened.
The hatchery entrepreneurs were found compelled to bury their chicken as the farmers stopped buying grown up chicken from the hatchery these days.
On the other hand, hatchery entrepreneurs were facing difficulty reaching the eggs and chickens to the traders and consumers due to lack of transport as a result of the fuel shortage, said Hatchery Industry Association Chitwan chair Rishi Poudel.
He shared that they were compelled to bury about 2.2 million chicken on Sunday itself across the country.
The loss is worth 120.1 million rupees. RSS
