March 30 : More than half of the registered Brick Industries in Mid-Terai including Dhanusha district are inactive at present. "Financial conditions of most of the Brick Industries in Terai are weak and they have limited financial outreach. Hence, industries are unable to run," informs Punya Parsad Neupane, Chief Revenue Officer of Inland Revenue Office Dhanusha.
The registration of environment friendly Brick Industries has increased after Government started to employ strict rules in the establishment and running of the industries based on old technology. A total of 65 Brick Industries to the registered 256 industries are running in Sarlahi, Mahottari, Dhanusha, and Sindhuli districts.
As per the rule Brick Industries must register in the VAT. The number of registered Brick industries is 71 in Dhanusha, 74 in Mahottari, 65 in Sarlahi and 16 in Sindhuli, according to Inland Revenue Office, Dhanusha. All the registered industries in Sindhuli are not running at present." The number of active industries is only 15 in Sarlahi and 50-50 in Dhanusha and Mahottari," informed Neupane.
"Although industries are renewed every year, many industries are not able to run due to the lack of raw materials and market," says Vinya Yadav, President of Brick Entrepreneurs Association, and Janakpur Zone.
