CUTE System At TIA

Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has installed Common User Terminal Equipment (CUTE) system for passenger check-in on international flights. With this system, the passengers can be checked in at any airline counter, according to Dinesh Shrestha, the General Manager of TIA. Shrestha said that the passengers do not have to queue up in a single line now and there will be faster transfer of information as well as faster checking of baggage and passenger. Every passenger is charged one dollar for this service. Through a global tender Sita and Communications is awarded the contract to administer the CUTE system.

However, Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has complained that Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), which owns and manages TIA, has simply renamed the Departure Control System to CUTE for snatching away the NAC’s right for collecting ground handling service charges.

NAC had been collecting nearly Rs 120 million per month from ground handling charges.
