May 29: The budget for fiscal year 2073/74 has given top priority to construction of international airport in the tourism sector. The budget presented by Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel on Saturday has committed to forward Gautam Buddha International Airport at Bhairahawa, Pokhara Regional International Airport and Nijgadh International Airport with priorities .
The government has allocated Rs 7.22 billion budget for construction of Gautam Buddha International Airport .Similarly, Rs 5 billion has been allocated for Pokhara International Airport with an aim to complete within next 4 years. The airport that has been constructed with the target to operate in 4 years will have Rs 21 billion investment from China. Likewise, the government has allocated Rs 1.50 billion for acquisition and demarcation of the land for Nijgadh International Airport.
The budget also include program of starting operation of domestic airport that was in operation in past but has been closed currently. Similarly, capacity expansion of regional airport of Biratnagar, Dang and Dhangadhi will be carried out. Likewise, some closed internal airports will be operated after maintenance.
