Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli emphasized that state-run industries and corporations should not operate at a loss.
In a briefing with employees under the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies and its subordinate bodies at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Singha Durbar, on Wednesday, Prime Minister Oli urged them to focus on industrialization, noting that infrastructure like roads and electricity are already in place.
“Employment can be generated by modernizing agriculture and establishing start-up industries. Imports can be reduced by boosting production,” he said.
PM Oli instructed the officials not to operate industries that fail to generate profit and deliver results.
He urged prioritizing industries that generate employment and produce goods that contribute to a civilized and healthy society, rather than those related to alcohol and tobacco. He also directed authorities to support and protect industries engaged in positive activities.
The prime minister called for the continuation of efforts to explore and extract minerals and petroleum products and to develop industries based on these resources.
Minister for Industry Damodar Bhandari, Chief Secretary Lila Devi Gadtaula, Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers Raj Kumar Shrestha, and Secretary Krishna Bahadur Raut, among others, were present at the meeting. -- RSS
