High-Density Apple Farming Gaining Popularity in Jumla

High-density commercial farming of apple has surged in Jumla. Recently, this new type of farming farming has been adopted by Himali T&N Research Pvt Ltd conducted in four hectares of land in Guthichour Rural Municipality-3 and in five hectares in Guthichour-5 by Guthichour Agro Firm with the financial and technical assistance from the Prime Minister Agriculture Modernization Project, said Senior Agriculture Officer Khemraj Shahi of the high-density apple farming project implementation unit in Jumla.

This marks the first instance of commercial apple cultivation in the district. Shahi highlighted that the project has established a high-density apple orchard on an additional nine hectares in Guthichaur, utilizing machine-friendly soil improvement and drip irrigation methods, thereby expanding the area of high-density apples.

Currently, Jumla cultivates high-density Fuji apples in over 52 hectares. The project supports farmers across all eight local levels through agriculture land pooling practices.

There are 253,100 hectares of land in Jumla's eight local levels, with 38,486 hectares identified as cultivable. Of this, 26,435 hectares are currently cultivated. The irrigated area spans 3,650 hectares, while irrigation facility does not cover 22,785 hectares. Forests cover 104,570 hectares, pastures occupy 66,210 hectares, and lakes, rivers, rocks, and other areas account for 43,834 hectares.
