The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared Dhulikhel, a prominent tourism town in Kavrepalanchowk, as Nepal's first 'healthy city.' This recognition comes after Dhulikhel successfully met the WHO's criteria, earning it a reward of $5,000 for being the second healthiest city in Asia.

Dr. Suvajee Good, Programme Coordinator of the WHO Department of Ethics and Social Determinants, made the announcement on Tuesday, naming Dhulikhel as Nepal's first healthy city and the second healthiest city in Asia. With this announcement, Dhulikhel is now entitled to receive a $5,000 reward.

Pune City Banda in India holds the title of the first healthy city in Asia, while Dhulikhel has been ranked second with a score of 65.48.

Dhulikhel’s Mayor Ashok Kumar Byanju expressed pride in the city's achievement, noting that it has been declared the second healthiest city in Asia and the first in Nepal, along with receiving a $5,000 prize.

The announcement was based on various factors, including policy reforms in the health sector, progress toward sustainable development goals in health, environmental improvements, access to healthcare for disadvantaged citizens, management of chronic and communicable diseases, and advancements in community health and primary healthcare by the local government. -- RSS
