Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has urged all stakeholders to prevent artificial shortages, black marketing, price hikes, and the sale of substandard goods to ensure smooth and easy access to daily necessities.
During a discussion with stakeholders on effective market monitoring and supply management for the upcoming festivals, he warned that price increases should be justified. "Low-quality food items are often sold during festivals, leading to the distribution of poor-quality goods to consumers. This issue must be addressed seriously."
The home minister stated that achieving results requires coordination among the concerned parties, and he emphasized that the effectiveness of these efforts will be evaluated in a meeting after the festival.
Home Secretary Eaknarayan Aryal urged the Department of Commerce to hold Zoom meetings with all Assistant Chief District Officers to enhance market monitoring. He also announced that the number of fair price shops will increase during the upcoming festivals, including Dashain.
Director General of the Department of Commerce, Supply and Consumer Protection, Rajan Poudel, provided an update on market monitoring, the supply of essential daily food, and consumer goods.
Stakeholders also stressed that the government should retain the authority to set prices by eliminating duplication in market monitoring. -- RSS
