July 27: As an increasing number of initiatives taken to provide continuous internet service, the cost of mobile internet service has been decreasing. Due to the increase in number of internet users and market competition the internet charge has been decreasing.
The telecommunication service providers plays vital role in increasing significant internet users in Nepal. Based upon the level of services and type of telecommunication service providers, the mobile internet cost varies accordingly.
As per the internet service provided by Nepal Telecom, it has fixed Rs 1 per 1 mbps excluding tax if the user usages internet without data package. Similarly, it cost Rs 28 to Rs 80 excluding tax if the user buys data package from 10 MB to 10 GB. Since one year Telecom has been providing data package system to its customers.
In case of Ncell users, it cost Rs 3 per MB excluding tax to its internet user without using data pack. 5 years back, it was fixed at Rs 6 per MB excluding tax. During the period, the internet cost of Ncell has become cheaper by around 50 percent.
Stakeholders opined that due to technological development, increasing 3D coverage and market competition, internet cost is declining in the country.
