Death Toll from Monsoon-Induced Disasters Rises to 100

Monsoon-induced disasters caused by incessant rainfall in the last few days have killed 100 people across the country while 67 are reported missing, the state-owned news agency RSS reported. In addition, another 100 people have been injured in the disasters.    

According to the Home Ministry, the highest number of casualties was reported in the Kathmandu Valley with 37 fatalities -- 20 in Lalitpur, 12 in Kathmandu and five in Bhaktapur.

The Home Ministry added that 15 people were killed in Dhading, 10 in Kavre, seven in Makwanpur, six in Sindhupalchok, five in Solukhumbu and five in Panchthar. Furthermore, three people were killed in Dolakha, two in Sindhuli, two in Dhankuta, two in Mahottari, one each in Ramechhap, Jhapa, Udayapur, Ilam, Saptari and Nuwakot.    
Rishiram Tiwari, spokesperson for the Ministry of Home Affairs, informed RSS that a total of 9,983 security personnel have been mobilized for search and rescue operations in the flood and landslides-affected areas and 3,039 people have been successfully rescued so far. -- RSS
