The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast heavy rainfall at one or two locations in Koshi and Bagmati provinces due to the influence of monsoon winds and a low-pressure system formed in northeast Assam and adjoining areas of India.

Currently, Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces are experiencing partly to generally cloudy weather, with light to moderate rainfall, thunder, and lightning in some areas. The rest of the country remains partly cloudy.

In the next 24 hours, light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely in Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, with heavy rainfall expected at one or two locations in Koshi and Bagmati. There is also a possibility of wind storms in some parts of the Tarai region of Koshi province.

The department has urged the public to stay alert due to the potential risk of floods, landslides, and inundation from heavy rainfall in these areas.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the recent floods and landslides has climbed to 233 so far while 22 others are still missing. At least 169 people are injured in the disaster.

According to Home Ministry spokesperson Rishiram Tiwari, 17,120 people have been rescued so far from flood and landslide affected areas.

The government has given high priority to rescue and relief efforts and is working to repair the disaster-hit highways and operate the means of transport. -- RSS
