August 7: In the last FY 2072/73, ten commodities have occupied two third i.e 61.33 percent of the total import. According to the statistics of custom department, Rs 781 billion worth of total commodities were imported during the last FY in which Rs 479 billion has been spent on 10 major commodities.
Petroleum products were the largest imported item during the last FY. The Custom Department informed that a total of Rs 84.38 million has been spent on petroleum products during the last FY. It was Rs 126.50 billion during the previous FY. Decrease in import of petroleum product during the last FY has been attributed to the six months long border blockade.
Similarly, the top imported commodities during the last FY were iron and steel, transportation and related spare parts and electronic tools and parts. Likewise, sound recorders and reproducers, television, nuclear reactor, machinery and mechanical goods, pharmaceuticals products, valuable stones and animal and vegetable ghee, oil were also among the top imported commodities during the last FY.
