Hybrids account for about 10-12% of all car sales globally. However, hybrid cars have struggled to attract customers in Nepal. Amid the growing enthusiasm for electric vehicles, Vijay Motors, the exclusive distributor for Subaru in Nepal, has launched the Subaru Crosstrek in the Nepali market.
The Subaru Crosstrek, now available in Nepal, comes in two variants: the standard 2.0i-L petrol engine and the eco-friendly 2.0i-S ES HEV hybrid model. The hybrid version combines an internal combustion engine with electric power, offering a sustainable option for environmentally conscious drivers.
The hybrid Subaru models include the same features as their petrol counterparts, such as All-Wheel Drive and the 'EyeSight' technology, which utilises radar and cameras to alert drivers of potential hazards and collisions.
Design and Features
The Crosstrek showcases Subaru's signature SUV design with a compact yet spacious build. Although it is smaller than the Forester and Outback, it still offers a roomy interior. The front features a bold hexagonal grille paired with C-shaped auto LED headlights, while the rugged bumper is built to handle challenging terrains. Both variants come with roof rails that can be converted into crossbars, adding to its practicality. The rear mirrors the front design with matching C-shaped LED tail lights.
With a ground clearance of 220 mm and a towing capacity of up to 1,400 kg, the Crosstrek is designed for rugged terrains. The audio system varies by variant, offering either six or 10 speakers. The car is available in a range of colours, including Red, Gray Silver, White, Green, Black and Blue.
Performance
The Subaru Crosstrek comes with two engine options: a 2.0L petrol and a 2.0L hybrid. The petrol version features a direct-injected, 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter Boxer engine, producing 156 PS at 6,000 rpm and 196 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. The hybrid model combines a petrol engine with an electric powertrain, delivering 150 PS and 190 Nm of torque. Both variants include Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and X-Mode, providing excellent performance on various terrains and in all weather conditions. The Crosstrek also boasts the SI-Drive system, which allows drivers to choose between Sport and Intelligent modes for a customised driving experience.
Pricing
Subaru Crosstrek is available in the price range of Rs 14-17.5 million.
