Take Economic Development of the Nation Seriously: CNI

August 8: The delegations of Confederation of Nepali Industries (CNI) had a meeting with the newly elected Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on August 7. The delegates of CNI urged PM to take economic development of the nation seriously which has badly affected by the devastating earthquake followed by border blockade and Terai unrest.

The group of entrepreneurs under the leadership of Hari Bhakta Sharma, President of CNI informed PM about the present economic condition of Nepal in his official residence at Baluwatar. In the meeting, CNI suggested the government to increase capital expenditure, invest in infrastructures and minimize business losses in order to achieve the target of 6.5 percent economic growth rate for the current FY. Similarly, the confederation suggested the government to prioritise to increase employment opportunities and construction and renovation in 14 districts affected by the earthquake. Speaking in the meeting, PM Dahal said that the policy of coordinating with the private sector will be continued for economic reform of the country.

The delegates of CNI also held the meeting with Krishna Bahadur Mahara, the newly elected Finance Minister in his office. The confederation urged Mahara to remove the obstacles such as minimum capital expenditure, high inflation level, business losses, low economic growth rate for smooth development of the nation.

In the meeting, President Sharma urged Mahara to endorse all types of rules and regulations related to industrial and commercial sectors. Sharma also pointed out the requirements of formulating acts such as anti dumping and countervailing. According to Mahara, there is need of increment in gross savings to create investment friendly environment in the country. Issuing a press statement,  the confederation informed that the government has committed to collaborate with private sector in order to build a prosperous nation.
