Voting Underway for Local-Level By-Election to Fill 41 Vacant Positions

A total of 376 candidates, belonging to 20 political parties or running independently, are vying for the posts

Voting for the local-level by-election began at 7 AM on Sunday, December 1, and will continue until 5 PM today.

A total of 226,799 people are casting their votes in the election, which is being held to fill 41 vacant positions, according to the state-owned news agency RSS.

The by-election includes the election of a mayor and a deputy mayor for a municipality; two chairs and four vice chairs for rural municipalities; and 33 ward chairs.

Voters are required to bring one of the following official documents to cast their vote: a voter ID card, citizenship certificate, national ID card, passport, PAN card, or driving license.

A total of 376 candidates, from 20 political parties or running independently, are competing for these vacant positions.
