By-Election Held ‘Peacefully’, Nearly 62 Percent Voter Turnout Reported

The Election Commission (EC) reported that nearly 62 percent of voters participated in the by-election conducted for 41 local-level positions on Sunday.

According to EC Spokesperson Nita Pokharel Aryal, approximately 62 percent of the 226,799 registered voters cast their ballots, based on the latest reports.

The by-election was held to fill 41 positions, including the vacant position of one mayor, two deputy mayors, two rural municipality chairs, four rural municipality deputy chairs, and 33 ward chairs across various local levels.

The EC confirmed that voting proceeded peacefully in all polling centers from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Commission has directed officials to commence the vote counting process after collecting all ballot boxes.

Additionally, the EC expressed gratitude to the federal, provincial, and local governments for their support, coordination, and cooperation in ensuring the successful completion of the by-election. -- RSS
