Pokhara Avengers secured its first win in the Nepal Premier League (NPL) with a dominant 10-wicket victory over Lumbini Lions at Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, Kathmandu on Friday, December 6.
In a magnificent display of power hitting, the Avengers chased the target of 171 in just 16.5 overs without losing a wicket.
Opener Andries Gous played a blistering knock of 104 runs off 55 balls, which included 5 sixes and 12 fours, to guide the Avengers towards the victory. Gous smashed the Lions’ bowlers all around the park to become the first batter in the tournament to make a 100. He was declared the player of the match.
Gous was well supported by Dinesh Kharel, who contributed 61 runs off 46 balls with 4 sixes and an equal number of fours.
Batting first, Lumbini Lions posted 170 at the loss of five wickets in 20 overs.
Captain Rohit Paudel remained unbeaten at 95 off 59 balls, which included 4 sixes and 10 fours. Tom Moores contributed 45 runs.
Bipin Khatri was the pick of the bowlers for the Avengers, taking 2 wickets, while Matthew Critchley got one.
The Lions had earlier lost to Biratnagar Kings by two wickets.
Lumbini will be in action against Sudurpaschim Royals in the first double header on Saturday, December 7, while Karnali Yaks will play against Biratnagar Kings later in the day.
