Karnali Defeats Lumbini by Five Runs to Climb to Third in NPL Standings

Chasing the target of 129, the Lions managed only 123 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the allotted 20 overs

Karnali Yaks secured a narrow five-run victory over Lumbini Lions in the ongoing Nepal Premier League (NPL) at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, Kathmandu, on Friday, December 13.  

With 8 points from six matches, the Yaks are tied with Sudurpaschim Royals on the points table. However, the Royals, having played five matches, are second due to a superior run rate.  

Chasing a target of 129, the Lions managed only 123 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Tom Moores top-scored for Lumbini with 36 runs off 35 balls, hitting four fours and a six. Sundeep Jora contributed 24 runs, while Aashutosh Ghiraiya and Saad Bin Zafar added 16 runs each.  

For Karnali, Zeeshan Maqsood was the pick of the bowlers, claiming two wickets. Sompal Kami, Nandan Yadav, Bipin Sharma, and William Bosisto each took one wicket.  

Earlier, Karnali Yaks posted 128 runs in their innings, thanks to William Bosisto’s impressive 44 off 30 balls, featuring three fours and three sixes. Arjun Gharti chipped in with 25 runs, while opener Babar Hayat contributed 20.  

Bosisto was declared the player of the match for his all-round performance.

On his debut, Bikash Aagri shone with the ball for Lumbini, taking three wickets. Tilak Raj Bhandari picked up two wickets, while Saad Bin Zafar and captain Rohit Kumar Paudel claimed one wicket apiece.  

The Lions has already crashed out of the tournament.
