India has issued a tender worth Rs 2.54 billion for the construction of a dry port in Dodhara Chandani Municipality-1, Kanchanpur District.
The move comes after an agreement between Nepal’s Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation and the Nepal Intermodal Transport Development Board (NITDB) to facilitate the felling of trees at the designated construction site.
NITDB Executive Director Ashish Gajurel informed the state-owned news agency RSS that preparations are well underway.
“The Indian side has already announced the tender,” Gajurel said. “We have started counting the trees and will invite bids for their removal after the final report is ready.”
Construction by the Indian side will begin once the site is cleared.
On June 1, 2023, Nepal and India signed an agreement for the development of the dry port, with the Indian government providing both financial and technical assistance.
The project spans 42.36 hectares and will include various infrastructures such as two warehouses, customs facilities, and buildings for quarantine, immigration, and security. These facilities will be integrated into the check post, according to NITDB.
