Nepal’s Trade Deficit Widens by 6.2% Despite 46.5% Surge in Exports

Imports rose 10.09% year-year-year to Rs 988.58 billion, while exports surged to Rs 127.2 billion in the first seven months of FY25, according to the Department of Customs

Nepal’s trade deficit expanded by 6.2% year-on-year in the first seven months of FY25, despite a significant 46.5% rise in exports, according to the latest data from the Department of Customs.  

Total foreign trade increased by 13.3% to Rs 1,115.79 billion by mid-February 2025, up from Rs 984.77 billion in the same period last year. Imports rose by 10.09% to Rs 988.58 billion, while exports surged to Rs 127.2 billion, compared to Rs 86.83 billion in the corresponding period last year.  

As a result, Nepal’s trade deficit reached Rs 861.38 billion, up from Rs 811.11 billion in the same period last fiscal year.
