Farmer Birendra Khadka has been engaged in commercial strawberry farming for the past two years, earning an annual income of Rs 600,000.
A permanent resident of Jabang Dudilabot in Madi Rural Municipality-1, Rolpa, Khadka has found success cultivating strawberries in Jhingora, Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City-14, Dang. He currently grows strawberries on 16 kathas of land, generating an annual turnover of Rs 1.4 million.
Strawberries in Dang are sold at Rs 800 per kilogram and are supplied to markets in Ghorahi, Tulsipur, Lamahi, and other nearby areas. Encouraged by the promising returns, Khadka has expanded his commercial strawberry farming to seven ropanis of land in Rolpa this year.
Prithviraj Lamichhane, Information Officer at the Agricultural Knowledge Center in Dang, noted that a consistent market for daily sales would benefit strawberry farmers. Given the limited local market, he emphasized the need for proper packaging and transportation to expand sales.
Lamichhane added that Dang’s air, water, and soil conditions are well-suited for strawberry cultivation. -- RSS
