Exports Soar 65.2% to Rs 188 Billion, Driven by Edible Oil Shipments

Nepal’s exports surged by 65.2% year-on-year in the first nine months of the current fiscal year (2024/25), propelled largely by a sharp rise in shipments of refined edible oils, according to the latest data from the Department of Customs.

Between mid-July 2024 and mid-April 2025, the country exported goods worth Rs 188.20 billion, up significantly from Rs 113.95 billion recorded during the same period last fiscal year.

Refined soybean oil and sunflower oil retained their positions as Nepal’s top two export commodities in terms of value. Exports of soybean oil totaled Rs 62.78 billion, while sunflower oil exports reached Rs 9.23 billion in the first nine months.

Import volumes also increased during the review period, rising 12.2% year-on-year to Rs 1.309 trillion, compared to Rs 1.167 trillion in the previous fiscal year. 

However, the country’s trade deficit widened by 6.45% year-on-year.
