The government has allocated Rs 57.48 billion for the agriculture sector in the fiscal year 2025/26, marking a slight increase from the Rs 57.29 billion earmarked in the current fiscal year.
Presenting the budget, Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel announced that Rs 28.82 billion will go toward the supply of chemical fertilizers, while Rs 400 million has been set aside for organic fertilizers. The government plans to ensure the availability of 600,000 tonnes of chemical fertilizers next fiscal.
The budget also outlines preparations to establish a domestic chemical fertilizer plant, aiming to reduce dependency on imports.
Additionally, the government has launched a plan to achieve rice self-sufficiency within two years by promoting spring (Chaitra) paddy cultivation in 22 districts.
