Flooding in the Lhende Khola in Rasuwa district early Wednesday, July 30, has raised alarm in downstream areas, recalling the horror of the July 8 disaster that swept away the Friendship Bridge on the Nepal–China trade route and caused extensive damage to infrastructure and human lives.

The Lhende Khola, also known as the Bhotekoshi River and a tributary of the Trishuli River, overflowed at around 3 am, prompting district administrations in Rasuwa and Nuwakot to urge residents along the riverbanks to stay alert, the state-run news agency RSS reported.

According to RSS, Assistant Chief District Officer of Nuwakot, Krishna Prasad Humagain, confirmed that downstream areas such as Pairebensi, Betrawati, Trishuli, and Devighat were facing riverbank erosion due to the surge in water flow.

Security forces, including Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force, have been deployed to warn communities and prevent casualties, added a news report published by RSS.

The flood also damaged a station of the Trishuli–Kathmandu transmission line at Kispang Rural Municipality-5 in Nuwakot, according to the local administration.

On July 8, the same river overflowed near the Rasuwagadhi border point after a suspected glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) on the Chinese side. The disaster swept away the key Friendship Bridge, severed the road link between Nepal and China, washed away vehicles parked at the customs yard, and left at least 18 people, including Nepali and Chinese workers and police personnel, missing.
