Ncell has become the first Nepali telecom operator to launch Voice over Long-Term Evolution (VoLTE) international roaming services—both for foreign visitors to Nepal and for its customers travelling abroad.

“With this, Ncell users can now stay connected while travelling overseas through high-quality voice calls and high-speed data services,” the company said in a statement.

Ncell had already been offering inbound VoLTE roaming services to foreigners visiting Nepal. Now, expanding its service portfolio, the company has begun offering outbound VoLTE roaming—starting Monday, August 4—in partnership with Airtel for customers travelling to India.

VoLTE is a technology that allows high-definition (HD) voice calls with faster connectivity over 4G networks. “With the addition of this service, Ncell’s roaming offer in India becomes more refined for customers who are already enjoying attractive roaming deals,” the company added.

Ncell said it is also testing outbound VoLTE roaming with major international operators, including Jio and Vodafone in India; AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon in the US; SoftBank and NTT Docomo in Japan; China Mobile and China Unicom in China; and Bell and Telus in Canada.

For inbound VoLTE roaming, Ncell already provides services to users of Airtel and Jio (India), China Mobile (China), Ooredoo (Kuwait), Mobily (Saudi Arabia), AT&T (USA), and Viettel (Vietnam).
