13 Jajarkot Residents Missing in Uttarakhand Flash Flood

Thirteen residents of Jajarkot district have gone missing following a flash flood in the Harsil area of Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand State, India, on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Kushe Rural Municipality Chairperson Hari Chandra Basnet, all the missing individuals are from Ward No. 2 of the municipality and had travelled to India for work. Issuing a press statement on Thursday, Basnet said they have been out of contact with their families since the disaster.

He added that some locals from other wards of the municipality are also unaccounted for in the affected area. Basnet has urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take immediate steps to help locate and rescue the missing.

Chief District Officer (CDO) of Jajarkot, Mekh Bahadur Mangrati, confirmed that Kushe Rural Municipality informed his office about the incident. “I have circulated notices to all local levels and police posts in the district to collect the names of Jajarkot residents missing in Harsil and have also notified the Home Ministry,” CDO Mangrati said. -- RSS
