The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index fell 0.97%, or 27.90 points, to close at 2,822.46 on Monday, after gaining 0.64% last Thursday.
The market was closed on Sunday due to a public holiday in Kathmandu Valley for the Gaijatra festival.
Daily turnover, however, surged to Rs 10.21 billion from Rs 8.53 billion the previous trading day.
Over 25.09 million shares changed hands across 98,525 transactions.
All major indices ended the day in negative territory. The Sensitive Index declined 0.96%, the Float Index fell 1.07%, and the Sensitive Float Index dropped 1.03%.
River Falls Power Limited (RFPL) was the top gainer, jumping 9.99%, to close at Rs 406.10 per share. Conversely, Unnati Sahakarya Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (USLB) recorded the steepest loss, falling 7.64% to Rs 2,246.28 per share.
SHIVAM CEMENTS LTD (SHIVM) led in turnover with Rs 538.86 million, followed by Himalayan Reinsurance Limited (HRL) at Rs 428.32 million, and Nepal Reinsurance Company Limited (NRIC) at Rs 366.05 million.
Among 13 sectoral indices, only Mutual Fund and Others rose by 0.17% and 0.31%, respectively. The Microfinance Index saw the sharpest fall, down 2.35%, followed by Development Bank (-2.31%), Trading (-1.44%), HydroPower (-1.41%) and Finance (-1.27%).
Total market capitalization dropped to Rs 4,711.88 billion from Rs 4,757.76 billion last Thursday.
