The Gandaki Province Government has decided to dissolve seven directorates and two centres in a major administrative overhaul.
Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey announced the decision at a press conference on Monday, August 11, citing the need for a cost-effective administrative setup.
The directorates to be scrapped are Tourism, Industry, Commerce and Consumer Protection; Agricultural Development; Livestock and Fisheries Development; Infrastructure Development; Forestry; Education Development; and Provincial Health. The Provincial Health Training Centre and the Provincial Health Supply Management Centre will also be shut down.
In addition, 32 district-level offices will be merged into 17. The restructuring will result in the removal of 185 positions—41 officer-level, 96 assistant-level, and 48 other staff.
Their responsibilities would be transferred to the relevant divisions of provincial ministries, Pandey said.
The move follows recommendations from a review committee tasked with reviewing the provincial administrative structure and making recommendations. Its proposals would be implemented in phases, the chief minister added. “These reforms will reduce expenditure and ensure cost-effective service delivery.”
